Buxa Initiatives :: Buxa Tiger Reserve

The last hamlet village

Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR), the only tiger reserve in the whole of Khangchendzonga circuit is an important biodiversity hotspot sandwiched between Bhutan Himalayas and the riverine plains of Assam. This makes protection for this reserve and impossible task without the local people. Again here, with all encouragement of the Help Tourism team Tarashankar Thapa ,a local man from this area developed a tiny hospitality unit, Gracilips Tourist Lodge in Rajabhatkhawa, the gateway to BTR. Nature trails, treks, Jungle safaris, Birding trips and Ethnic village visits can easily be organised from this base. His uncle Late Shri. Harishankar Thapa, several years ago started this movement at Buxa fort by keeping trekkers as his paying guests. One can still see the remnants of the infamous Buxa fort where the great freedom fighters and revolutionaries of British-ruled India were captivated.

Fact Sheet

The lodge has 02 double bedded rooms and 02 family rooms with private bath and shower.A small restaurant serves simple and clean local food. Porters, trekking guides and local trackers are arranged from the lodge on request. Facilities are just more than basic but the hospitality is worth staying for weeks together.
